IMAG0374I started out married life with the discovery, or realization rather, that I am one of the most domestically-challenged women I have ever known. You will not find any amazing recipes that I created (unless it was by accident), or fabulous, pin-worthy projects that make raising a family look like rainbows and ponies here.

I mostly write anecdotes about my struggles to embrace the domestic life. I am most passionate about eating for wellness and managing a healthy weight and stretching a dollar to live well on a small income.

Learning to Eat for Wellness

Eating a healthy diet can mean a lot of different things depending on what your focus is. I believe that a healthy diet starts with real food. I am firmly against eating ‘diet’ versions of any food product. After ten years of unsuccessfully dieting, I decided to throw out the idea of counting calories and focus on fueling my body. The concept behind paleo diets and clean eating was appealing to me, but no-way was I going to commit that fully to giving up foods that I loved. I needed a way to have my cake and eat it too. Over the course of the last year, I have made one small change every few weeks and the difference in my overall health has been night and day. I want to share what has worked for me during this time, and continue to share what I am trying and how it works as I go forward in my journey to reach and sustain a healthy weight.

Learning to Live Well on a Little

I have never considered myself a materialistic person, and I have never had more money than I knew how to spend. But, adding a family to my lifestyle without significantly increasing income has forced me to get creative. I really struggled at first, but I never wanted to be one of those couples that fights about money so I have been focusing pretty hard for the last couple of years on making the little bit that we have work for us.

Learning to Foster Healthy Relationships

After our first year of marriage, I became increasingly more aware of my relationship skills. Not just relationship skills for marriage, but family relationships, parenting, in-laws and other extended family.
